This was a beautiful area to visit. You are able to drive your car through the park which is approx. five miles before the end of the trail. From here it is a one mile hiking trail to the big shoals. The trail markers are not very descriptive and you will not have cell service. Hang a few markers on trail signs so you know how to get back to your vehicle.
Make sure to go to Big Shoals if you want to see the rapids, and pay for parking at Big Shoals, not Little Shoals. The Suwanee River is a historically significant river and should be respected for its beauty. I passed through on a long drive to go for a quick 3 mile hike. Bring a map, it can get confusing. Remember to respect the locals. There is a dirt road leading up to the park, so don't go on a rainy day unless you have 4x4
Seeing class three rapids in Florida is rare and worth the trip. At the bottom of the shoals (end of the rapids) we spotted a 10 foot gator beached in the sand on the side of the river. I do not advise swimming in this area.
Amazing experience kayaking in and camping for the night. We loved hearing the shoals lull us to sleep.
Great place to enjoy natural Florida. We love the hiking and biking paths.
Who knew Florida had rapids and hills?! The hike was not difficult, the trail was clear and close to the river, and the shoals were very cool. You're even able to get to the river and play on the rocks with a little bit of work. Lots of birds & wildlife. Very nice hike for a quick afternoon visit.
